About Yelena Remus, LMHC
I believe that finding the right therapist is about more than finding someone with the right experience. It’s about finding someone you feel comfortable with and connected to—someone who listens, works toward understanding, and creates a space where you can build trust and safety to explore your deeper emotional patterns. Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is a significant factor in successful treatment.
For 15 years, I had the privilege of supporting adolescents and families through the challenges that can come with growing up, navigating relationships, and developing a sense of who you are. My early work in school settings taught me the importance of looking at the whole person and understanding the many relationships and experiences that shape how we feel and function. I worked closely with students, families, and educators, with a focus on helping young people feel supported, understood, and empowered. In 2022, I expanded my clinical work to residential care and group practice settings, where I began working with both adolescents and adults. I’ve supported clients through a wide range of challenges, including OCD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, and emotional dysregulation.
Over the years, I’ve learned that there is no single path to feeling better. Each person brings their own story, strengths, struggles, and hopes into the therapy room. My hope is that our work together will feel collaborative and genuine—a place where you can slow down, build a deeper understanding of your emotional world, and develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges.
I bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion to my work while also helping clients gently challenge the patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Through our work together, my goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, more confident navigating life’s challenges, and better able to create the relationships and life you want.
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Whether you’re seeking support for OCD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, relationship concerns, or another emotional challenge, you simply need a safe place to start. I provide psychotherapy for adolescents and adults in New York City and throughout New York State.
My values
01
Honoring Multi-dimensionality
I believe therapy begins with seeing you as a whole person. Our experiences are shaped by the many identities, relationships, cultures, communities, and life experiences that make us who we are. These different aspects of identity often overlap and influence how we understand ourselves, navigate relationships, and move through the world.
As a therapist, I take a multidimensional approach, recognizing that no single part of your identity can fully define your experience. I strive to create a supportive, inclusive, and nonjudgmental space where you can explore the different parts of yourself and how they influence your emotional well-being.
By acknowledging the complexity of each person’s lived experience, therapy can create greater opportunities for self-understanding, empathy, connection, and meaningful growth. My goal is to understand your unique perspective and support you in navigating your experiences with greater awareness and compassion.
02
Building Trust and Connection
I believe that connection is at the heart of a meaningful therapeutic relationship. Trust is not something I expect you to give simply because we begin therapy together; it is something we build over time through patience, consistency, and effort put toward building a genuine connection.
Creating a strong therapeutic relationship provides a foundation where you can feel heard, understood, and supported. When you feel safe and comfortable in therapy, exploring difficult experiences, gaining insight, and creating meaningful change can begin to feel more possible.
My goal is to approach our work together with intention, patience, and curiosity. I will meet you where you are and allow our therapeutic relationship to develop at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we can create a supportive space for self-exploration, personal growth, and meaningful change.
03
A Collaborative Approach
While I am the therapist, I believe therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative process. I am here to support your work and growth, offering guidance, perspective, and a space where you can explore yourself with honesty and curiosity.
I believe that you already have within you what you need to make the changes you desire. However, other processes, patterns, or experiences can make it difficult to access those parts of yourself. My role is to help you identify and work through what may be getting in the way, so that you can reconnect with your strengths, values, and authentic self.
Together, we collaborate to help you move toward where you want to be. That collaboration may sometimes include my challenging you, offering a different perspective, or gently pushing back when I notice something that may be keeping you stuck. But challenge is part of the collaboration, not a replacement for your autonomy.
